Stylish Shopping in Rome

Italians like their fashion expensive and classic. You’ll find no Primani love amidst the fountains and statues of Rome; in fact even the most confidently trendy Londoner may feel a little intimidated by the uber groomed denizens of Italy’s capital.

For starters, head to the Spanish Steps and the Via de Condotti. This street is frequented by some of the wealthiest people in Rome, and boasts stores such as Armani, Prada, Dolce and Gabbana. You may wince at the prices but just take a deep breath and be thankful that the shops no longer charge you to enter (yes they did used to do this!). Nowadays doormen are unfailingly polite and the atmosphere of cool elegance will really make you envy how the other half live.

For a less sartorial, but no less stylish, treat head to Via del Corso where the Ferrari flagship store and Swarowski Crystal are located. Swarowski makes the crystals that all designers use when they need to add some sparkle to their creations and don’t want to shell out for diamonds: from Christian Louboutins to Dolce and Gabbana for Kylie, these little rocks have appeared on the creme de la creme of the fashion scene. Swarowski crsytals also tend to be less expensive than they are sparkly and can provide a stunning gift for friends and family without a designer price tag to match.

If Italy will never convert you to the monochrome world of traditional elegance make sure you stop by Trastevere, located on the banks of the River Tiber. There is a market like vibe to this area that lends itself to getting lost amongst the winding streets and unique finds.
